First Time Quality

FTQ (First Time Quality) indicates how effective the company is in producing products that meet quality requirements the first time. This translates into savings in time and costs associated with repeated tests and repairs of defective products.

It is a measure used in various industries to evaluate the quality of a job or product completed on the first try, without the need for rework or repairs. It is often used in the context of production, where the number of production units that meet all quality requirements immediately after production is measured.

A high FTQ means that a company effectively controls its manufacturing processes and produces high-quality products the first time. On the other hand, a low ratio may indicate production quality issues, process control issues, or the need to make adjustments to manufacturing processes.

How to calculate FTQ?

  1. Identify the number of production units that meet quality requirements without the need for rework or repairs
  2. Determine the total number of production units produced
  3. Divide the number of units meeting quality requirements by the total number of units produced
  4. The resulting result is the FTQ index, which can be expressed as an absolute value or percentage

Example of calculating the FTQ indicator:

During production, 5,000 pieces of products were manufactured, of which 4,850 met the quality requirements and were produced without the need for corrections and repairs. The FTQ rate in this case would be 97% (or 0.9 expressed as an absolute value).

The FTQ Indicator helps monitor and improve the quality effectiveness of processes. The higher the indicator, the higher the quality of the process. A low ratio always indicates the need to identify and improve weak points that result in the need for repairs and corrections of manufactured products. Therefore, this indicator is one of the key goals for most companies, and continuous monitoring and improvement is important to ensure the company's competitiveness on the market.
